What's On

At The Bothy, we offer peer-led recovery support shaped by people with lived experience of addiction. Everything we do is rooted in compassion, understanding, and mutual aid, creating a relaxed, stigma-free space where everyone is welcome.

Our drop-in service provides a person-centred approach, supporting each individual based on their own needs and goals. Whether someone is taking their first steps or continuing their recovery journey, we offer practical tools, emotional support, and space to rest, reflect, and recharge.

Our core offer includes referrals to rehabilitation services, naloxone kits and overdose response training, food bank referrals, free internet access, and basic IT support. We also provide free food, hot drinks, and a welcoming space to connect.

Our wellbeing activities include peer mentoring, recovery coaching, women’s-only groups, yoga, an art group, and a memorial quilting group, as well as creative sessions for self-expression and healing.

We offer opportunities for skills and growth through cooking workshops, volunteering, tailored training, and free gym memberships in partnership with Edinburgh Leisure.

Much of our work is delivered in collaboration with community partners including Edinburgh Food Social, Turning Point Scotland, and the Thistle Foundation’s Connecting Craigmillar team, who helped bring The Bothy to life and continue to support its growth. We also work with Queen Margaret University on creative, community-led learning projects that encourage connection, confidence, and creativity.

Many of our workshops are led by the women who attend the group, creating a strong sense of ownership, empowerment and peer support.

The group also enjoys regular trips and activities such as visits to the botanical gardens, the beach, day spa trips, Dr Neil’s Garden, Dynamic Earth and other local services.

These experiences help to build trusting friendships, confidence and connection with the wider community.
